JANUARY 17

 FEAST DAY OF
ST. ANTHONY

St. Anthony is the great patriarch of monastic life. He never had an education and never learned to read and write. However, he learned the entire Bible and committed It to memory. He spent over twenty years in the desert fasting, praying and seeking the true word of God. Scores of the faithful sought him out for prayer, guidance and advice.

He died at the age of 105 and serves as an inspiration for prayer, but also reminds us what a Christian can do even with very little or no education. (Also celebrated on this day is Antonia).
