JULY 20
FEAST DAY OF PROPHET ELIAS
|
One of the greatest Prophets of the Old Testament was Prophet Elijah (Elias). Elias was a fearless man of God who preached against the wrong behavior of the people of Israel and their belief in false gods. He lived before the coming of Christ and was a Jewish prophet. It was Elias who preached the philosophy and glory and the belief of the existence of ONE GOD.
When he retreated to the sacred area of Mt. Sinai, he spoke with Almighty God and he learned that God is invisible and spiritual. According to tradition, Elijah was taken up into heaven in a flaming chariot as a reward for his great work among men. In fact St. John the Baptist and Jesus appeared in history 800 years later and many thought that they were Elijah back from heaven.
