APRIL 25
FEAST DAY OF ST. GEORGE
|
St. George is called the "Victorious Great Martyr'. He was an officer in the army of the Roman Emperor and a great persecutor of the Christians. When he converted to Christianity, he resigned his commission and refused to conduct Christian sacrifices to the pagan gods. For this he was tortured, and beaten with spears and bound to a sharp spiked wheel and ordered to deny his Faith. He was beheaded for his refusal.
St. George symbolizes the struggle against paganism and the never ending combat between good and evil.
