APRIL 25
FEAST DAY OF ST. MARK
|
There are four Evangelists in the Holy Scripture. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John wrote the first four books of the New Testament. St. Mark (his Hebrew name was John and his Roman name Mark) was born into a family of great wealth and social standing. His mother/Mary, was a very devout Christian and her home in Jerusalem was the first and earliest of Christian Churches. It was in her home that the Last Supper took place and it was this same house that the disciples awaited the Holy Spirit to descent at Pentecost.
St. Mark feared no man and preached the message of Christ in spite of threats against his life. Eventually he was attacked, dragged through the streets and his body pulverized with sharp stones and died of his wounds.
